A partnership for Italian municipal greenery under Legge 10/2013
Ambito maps the public green. SoilSense reads the soil keeping it alive. Together they help Italian municipalities meet the tree-balance obligation set out in Legge 10/2013.

A real legal obligation, without a tool actually built to meet it.
Italy's Legge 10/2013 — "Norms for the development of urban green spaces" — requires every municipality with more than 15,000 inhabitants to draw up a Bilancio Arboreo (tree balance sheet) at the end of each administrative term. The balance must precisely document the number of trees on municipal territory and plan for the planting of one tree for every child born or adopted.
Translating that into practice takes two capabilities that rarely coexist in a single piece of software: mapping the tree inventory, and monitoring its health over time. Ambito's WebSIT — a Territorial Information System dedicated to public greenery — covers the first: digital map, intervention management, regulatory compliance. SoilSense sensors cover the second: soil moisture and plant-available water, in real time, at the points that matter.
The integration brings both into the same interface. Public-works staff see the tree map, health status, and field data in one place — with maintenance and irrigation decisions grounded in data, not in calendar-based routines.
“Tree inventory, tree health, and real-time field data — in a single interface.”
Compliance, on the ground.
The integrated stack lets municipalities plan targeted interventions instead of uniform routines, document the state of the tree inventory in a verifiable way, and act before water stress becomes visible on the trees. The partnership launched publicly with the webinar "Bilancio Arboreo: tools and strategies for municipalities", hosted by SoilSense and Ambito in November 2024 with contributions from agronomists Simone Fiorentino and Andrea Bucci.
